Our StoryLunch Bar, Deli, Corner Store or Milk Bar; there are many terms that reference this iconic Australian business selling takeaway, drinks, lollies and the paper. However, there is much more to the humble lunch bar than people realise. Lunch bars represented a chance to move to Australia, start a new life and make an honest living to make ends meet. As such, they are closely tied with the migrant history of Australia. It was popular with the Vietnamese migrants of the 80s. It gave us an economic and social foothold in our new home. Despite the fond memories and nostalgia of walking down to your local lunch bar, the rise of supermarkets and chain convenience stores in the 90s led to the decline of the iconic Australian lunch bar. Fast forward 30 years later and here we are. Munch Box pays homage to the opportunities that we are grateful to have received upon landing in Australia. This is represented in the Vietnamese influence of our food which brings bold and fresh flavours to re-invent the classic lunch bar to withstand changing times.
